According to epidemiologic surveys, prevalence of GI diseases such as colorectal, gastric, esophageal, or pancreatic cancers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and celiac has been increased in Iran over the recent decades. Due to their chronic and progressive nature, it is reasonable that we expect increasing the prevalence of these diseases in the years ahead.
Information from clinical data registries can be used to improve care for such patients in the future by helping healthcare professionals and health policy-makers to make relevant decisions for disease control, prevention, and management.
Poursina Hakim Digestive Diseases Research Center (PDDRC) has designed and implement Isfahan IBD Surveillance Project (IISP) to make a surveillance registry system in this area. It has also designed registry systems for GI cancers and Celiac diseases to have more valid estimation about the epidemiology of these diseases in community. With that information, it is possible to make effective and precise activities for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and improve health quality of life (QOL) for the patients.
